FAQ

  • How can therapy help me?

Please see the “Services” tab to learn more about how therapy can benefit you

  • Where are you located?

Currently, all sessions are conducted online via a secured HIPAA-compliant platform until further notice. All residents of California and Iowa are able to seen for therapy via telehealth.

  • What happens during the free consultation?

Before committing to therapy, you have the option to request a free consultation, in which you will have the opportunity to share a bit about your concerns and hopes, learn more about your therapist, get a sense of what therapy entails, and ask any questions you may have.

In addition, when working with a therapist, it is important that you have a good connection and trust. The consultation is designed to help you and the therapist get a feel for whether you are a good match. If you decide to proceed, your therapist will provide you with documents to review/sign before the first session, set up a recurring appointment time, and send you the secure telehealth link you will need to log into your session.

  • This is my first time in therapy. What can I expect in session?

Welcome to the journey of taking good care of yourself! In the initial few sessions, you will discuss your concerns and goals with your therapist. Your therapist will support you in examining and developing a deeper understanding of the goals that initially brought you into therapy and you will collaboratively develop a treatment plan to address your needs. Your therapist will walk with you every step of the way and help you in your investment of self-growth.

  • How long are sessions?

Therapy sessions are 50 minutes long. However, longer times may be reserved when requested in advance. Couples and Prolonged Exposure therapy sessions range from 50-90 minutes. Sessions are by appointment only and are weekly, unless an alternative schedule is collaboratively agreed upon with your therapist and it is appropriate for the presenting concern.

  • How long will I be in therapy?

The short answer is that it depends. Therapy is unique and tailored for the individual person, depending on treatment needs, presenting concern, preferences for length, and goals. Although there are time-limited therapies (12-15 sessions) that target specific symptoms and diagnoses, humans tend to be quite complex, and you may find that what you initially sought out therapy for, leads to other areas to examine, which can extend the length of treatment.

Often, clients end therapy when they feel that their work is complete or that they have adequate skills to continue the journey themselves. Others find that therapy is a part of their routine self-care and decide to stay longer and carve out the weekly hour as a space to engage in self-examination, spur growth, and discover effective solutions to their problems.

How long you stay in therapy is a decision you can collaboratively make with your therapist and regularly touch base about as you create and achieve your goals.

  • What is your current fee?

The current fee for a licensed clinical psychologist is $200 per session. Payments can be made via credit or debit card. You can opt into auto-pay if this is one less thing to check off your list and to reduce your mental load.

  • Do you take insurance?

In-networked managed mental health care brushes up against tight restraints and restrictions that can impact the quality and quantity of care. In order to offer the higher level of service, quality, and flexibility that many patients seek, Inner Haven does not take insurance. Thus, Inner Haven is an out-of-network provider with most insurance plans. Payment is made at the time of the session directly by the patient.

However, a superbill can be provided to the patient to submit to their insurance company if insurance will reimburse a percentage of the cost for out-of-network providers. Insurance plans vary greatly, so checking with the insurance provider for policy details can be helpful.

  • What do I ask my insurance company to see if I can be reimbursed for a superbill?

    1. Does my insurance cover mental health services?

    2. Can I submit a superbill for mental health services from an out-of-network provider?

    3. What percentage of the cost does my insurance plan reimburse?

    4. What is my deductible for out-of-network services?

  • What is your cancellation policy?

If you cannot make it to your appointment, please inform your provider 24 hours in advance so the session time can be offered to someone else. If you are unable to reschedule before 24 hours or no-show to the session, you will be charged the full fee. If you are late to the session, the session will still end at the 50-minute mark.
